From Sketch to Scare: The Hand-Drawn Art of Pumpkinomicon

Before a Pumpkinomicon story becomes a finished horror comic, it has to take shape through human choices: a character’s silhouette, the angle of a page, and the moment a shadow reveals too much. The sketches and comic pages in this post show some of that work in progress.

Pumpkinomicon is an original horror comics anthology by T.A. Acierto. Year One brings its stories together in single issues and collected editions. For readers who like to see how horror is made, the drawings behind the finished pages are part of the story.

A horror comic begins with sketches

The early drawings let an artist search for a pose and mood before a page is final. A hooded figure can feel mysterious, threatening, or almost sympathetic depending on the line of its cloak and the space around it. These rough pages reveal that exploration.

From pencil work to the printed page

The completed panels add pacing, expressions, color, and text. A reader sees the finished scare; the artist has worked through the composition that makes it land. The finished comic pages below show where those decisions lead in Year One.

Made by people

Pumpkinomicon’s comic artwork is created by human artists. We do not use AI-generated illustrations for the comic pages. The sketches and finished art here are a look at the people’s work behind the anthology, including the revisions and individual marks that give it its character.
